Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice recently discussed her experience with dyslexia on the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre Podcast. The Princess was diagnosed with the reading issue at around age 6 or 7 years old. She had the obvious signs that she was struggling with reading and spelling, particularly when words looked jumbled to her.
Nowadays, Princess Beatrice has learned ways to help her work with her dyslexia and considers it a gift and a badge of honor. It’s an opportunity to think differently and to approach life in a unique way. She feels lucky to have had supportive teachers and hopes other teachers in general are adequately prepared to deal with it. The Princess also believe the learning difference is an even bigger asset when dyslexics enter the workforce because they are able to think differently and more creatively than most.
Author Dyslexia is a gift. That is what I really truly have come to believe, about how my brain works. Dyslexia is the opportunity to think differently.
