Aldermen have recently voted to create a Coast division of school, in the way of five new classrooms at the Taconi building, to be used for evaluating and instructing students with dyslexia. The agreement was time sensitive because the district needed time to hire teachers and fill the classroom with students.
Private schools are springing up for struggling students.
Established in 2008, Dynamic Dyslexia Design School, also called the 3-D school, has worked with hundreds of students with dyslexia since it opened. Tuition costs $4,500 a year. The school’s director Cena Holifield will establish criteria and provide guidelines for incoming students. The website, the3dschool.org, will keep interested parents up to date on important dates.
