A group that is known as the Special Educational Consortium that focuses on the needs of students with disability has declared that the reforms that are now pending before parliament in regard to the Disabled Student’s Allowance are ill thought out and have failed to take into the special circumstances that these same students face.

Students receiving DSA are more likely to reach a first or upper class second honors degree than disabled students who do not receive an allowance.

The SEC sites particularly that the fact that disabled students have higher cost barriers when it comes to software and computer equipment. Beyond that wish legislators to remember that due t the circumstances of their conditions disabled students are more likely to come from lower income and also find matriculation in standard schools a more daunting challenge than the rest of the students.
SEC does not support the changes as they currently stand. Spokesman Matthew Dodds said members believe the decision process is ‘deeply flawed’. He said: “We believe decisions have been made with no formal consultation, no assessment of the potential impact on disabled students, and no details of how these changes will be implemented.”
