An amendment did not pass today that would allow school districts to spend federal funding on teacher training for learning disabilities, such as dyslexia. The argument is that the funding should be able to be spent on training for all disabilities and not just learning disabilities. The amendment specified that the funding would have been used for middle to lower class families. The opposition for the amendment is upset because disabilities such as down syndrome and autism do not fall under the category of learning disability. It leads people to believe that education is more important that a group of students that have other disabilities.
