A report has been created by a group called the SACN on the importance of vitamin D for everyone. It is now being said that everyone should have vitamin D intake from the time they turn four. But since it isn’t possible to get the required amount from food, only the government is being urged to help.
The same SACN group that did the research has created a reference point of what the daily intake of vitamin D should be for everyone. Not everyone agrees that this is the proper intake for everyone because of the differences among people but it is a start. And taking vitamin D has been shown to decrease risk of illness and disease.
After oodles and oodles of peer-reviewed research (quite a bit of it covered in that SACN report) potentially linking issues with vitamin D availability to everything from depression (see here) to schizophrenia (see here) and lots of other things besides, the time appears now for “recommending an RNI [reference nutrient intake] for vitamin D of 10 µg/d (400 IU/d) throughout the year, for everyone in the general UK population aged 4 years old and above.”
