Wally Cox was an American comedian and actor best known for his role as the science teacher in Mr. Peepers, a television show from the 1950s, and as the voice of the popular cartoon character, Underdog. Despite being typecast as a meek and mild character, Cox himself was quite athletic.
Cox wasn’t pleased with being typecast as this type of character. Off screen, he even enjoyed a deep friendship with the super masculine cultural icon, Marlon Brando. Their relationship, however, was frequently misinterpreted as romantic involvement, likely because Brando was quoted as insinuating that if Cox had been a woman, he’d have married him instead of his wife, and that Cox was, in fact, the love of his life.
