Many people may not believe this but too much TV for a young child can be a bad thing. When children sit in front of the TV for too long it takes away from other developmental activities that are crucial in a child’s development. With little effective research done to support these arguments parent are letting their children watch more TV. This can lead to difficulty in reading, social problems, along with difficulty in problem solving.

TV has been found to have negative effects on children’s learning abilities. The damaging effects of too much television carries all the way into young adulthood. A child needs to be able to have live interaction with others in order to think through issues, follow through on learning processes, and play with their imaginations.

With these known problems happening with too much TV watching, it has not impacted on the amount of TV people are watching on a daily basis. We need to be aware of how much TV our children are watching as it leads to significant developmental problems along with basic human skills being lost. Doctors and researchers are urging parents to limit the time your child is in front of the TV. If it is not limited serious repercussions could happen with our children leading to casualties.
TV viewing replaces reading, doing homework, pursuing hobbies and getting enough sleep. It displaces creative activities, discourages exercise, creates demand for material goods and increases aggressive behavior in some children.
